About Lasik

LASIK or Laser vision correction, as it is commonly known stands for laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis where a laser is used to reshape your cornea in a manner that you see things clearly without the need for glasses or contact lenses. LASIK is a simple procedure that can change your life and the way you see. What it feels like seeing things clearly right from the time you wake up in the morning till you go to sleep without having to hunt for your glasses or contact lenses, is something only one who wears glasses would understand. If granted a wish to anyone wearing glasses, they would choose to get rid of their glasses. Our LASIK specialist at Mumbai Eye Care would help this dream of yours come true.

LASIK at MEC is just a feather-touch procedure. It is often called the “flap and zaps” procedure. It is a precise, fast, safe and permanent eye correction for removal of glasses. We perform the detailed evaluation for the patients to know their suitability for LASIK.

Wavefront And Topoguided Lasik

Wavefront And Topoguided Lasik

At Mumbai Eye Care, we understand that each eye is different. It’s not just about correcting your sphere and cylinder number in your glasses but going beyond to provide you the supervision you deserve. We consider the corneal shape and corneal aberrations when we perform the customized LASIK i.e. wave front & topo guided laser eye surgery. Corneal wave front measurement projects various aberrations in your eyes, while topography gives us the structural details of your cornea. A correction based on these values will help you achieve not just good visual acuity but enjoy a good quality visually.

Femtosecond Lasik

When it comes to precision in making the flap for LASIK, why compromise and take a chance by going for the blade LASIK? Femtosecond laser cataract surgery is used to create a flap that forms a layer of bubbles beneath the outer layer of the cornea with the use of rapid pulses of light. The flap is then lifted, and the underlying cornea is reshaped with an excimer laser. Then the flap is replaced in its original position. The femtosecond LASIK is a new technology that has precision up to each micron level - an all-laser LASIK procedure. Now with the femtosecond technology, we have the highest precision for the flap, least collateral damage, improved patient comfort and ability to allow more customization of the flap.

PRK / Phototherapeutic Keratectomy

It's also known as advanced surface ablation is again a flap free procedure that does not require any flap to be made in the cornea. The procedure gives results as good as LASIK. For all those who have low to moderate myopia and borderline corneal thickness, PRK Surgery is the best option.

Implantable Collamer Lens/ICL

The Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) is implanted in the eye to work with the crystalline (natural) lens to correct spectacle errors. In simple words, ICL is permanently implanting contact lens in your eyes. ICL surgery is the preferred option in following scenarios -

  • High Minus or High Plus specs power with or without cylinder numbers.
  • In lower powers, they are preferred when the cornea is thin, and LASIK is not advisable.
Lasik Surgery In Ghatkopar

At Mumbai Eye Care, we have been performing LASIK surgery right from our inception. We have the latest technology in terms of the best machines available. A strict preoperative check up protocol helps us screen those who are not suitable for LASIK and avoid any complications. We have had a track record of 100% success rate in terms of complete safety and 0% infection rate after LASIK surgery. We believe in patient safety first. Hence our patients would receive only a fresh Microkeratome only. There is no reuse of any material used in the surgery.

For people who do intend to wear glasses and contact lenses and have a refractive error, we have options in the form of refractive surgery. Refractive surgery aims at making people spectacle-free. This is done by means of performing surgeries such as LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis), PRK or ICL LASIK. It is a procedure where the cornea is reshaped to correct the refractive error. A flap of the cornea is lifted using a blade (microkeratome) or bladeless (femtosecond). After the flap is raised, the cornea is reshaped using ‘Eximer Laser’. PRK (Photorefractive keratectomy) is performed using the same laser. ICL (Implantable Collamer lens)- consists of placing a lens above the normal crystalline lens.
Not everyone is suitable for LASIK. Before planning a LASIK, patients have to undergo certain tests to evaluate if they are suitable for LASIK as it is performed only for patients with myopia of up to -10 dioptres, Hyperopia of up to 6 D and Astigmatism of up to 4 D. However, it is not just the refractive error that decides the suitability for LASIK. A thorough evaluation of the cornea on slit lamp to rule out any clinical signs of keratoconus, corneal scars or infiltrates is done. A corneal pachymetry of more than 490 microns is required for LASIK. A corneal topography is done to rule out any signs of sub clinical keratoconus. If any of the above criteria are not fulfilled, patients cannot undergo LASIK.
Yes, in cases of the thinner cornea with low to moderate refractive errors, we can perform PRK.
Yes, for those who are not suitable for LASIK/ PRK can now undergo a surgery called ICL. In this procedure, we place an intraocular lens above the normal crystalline lens. It simply means placing a permanent contact lens in the eye.
LASIK surgery intends to make a person spectacle-free. At the time of surgery, we feed the target refraction in the machine as Zero. However, sometimes there may be a residual error of 0.25 to 0.5D, especially in cases of higher refractive error that does not require to be corrected with glasses.
Prior to LASIK, the patient should stop wearing contact lenses at least for 1 week before the surgery. This will facilitate an accurate refraction, pachymetry, and topography so that we do not have any refractive surprises after the surgery. The patient should preferably have a hair bath a night prior to the surgery itself (patients will be advised to avoid hair bath for 2 weeks after the surgery). On the day of the surgery, patients should avoid wearing any perfume, deodorant and eye makeup. After the surgery, the patients will be prescribed dark glasses to be worn for a couple of days. The patient will be also given a couple of drops that are to be continued for a month after the surgery. The patient can resume the routine activities in two days.
One can resume the normal activities after two days.
LASIK is relatively a safe surgery. During the early postoperative period, patients may experience halos and glare. However, these will disappear in a month.
Cost of Lasik Surgery is depends on Types of Procedure you want to undergo. In Mumbai Eye Care cost of Lasik Surgery ranging from 25k to 1L.
